Pipe taps are supplied with either 'parallel' threads or 'taper' threads. These taps are similar in design to normal hand and machine taps, but usually have shorter flutes. They are suitable for both hand and machine use.

Parallel Pipe taps

BSP (British Standard Pipe) 'G' series are for use where a water or pressure tight joint is not required.

NPS ((American).National Pipe Standard) are for use where a water or pressure tight joint is not required. Also use NPSF Dryseal.

Taper Pipe taps

BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) 'Rc' series are for use where a water or pressure tight joint is required.

NPT ((American) National Pipe Taper) are for use where a water or pressure tight joint is required. Also use NPTF Dryseal.

(In all applications when producing threads, in and on, pipes it is recommended that a sealant compound is also used to futher seal the mating threads).

High Speed Steel (HSS) Ground thread taps.

Produced to ISO 529 and BS 949 for British Standard threads and ANSI B94.9 for American threads.
