Spiral point taps (sometimes called gun nose taps) are recommended for ‘through hole’ machine tapping. The angled cutting face on the spiral point taps forces the swarf and chips ahead of the tap and out of the hole. It also allows free flow of coolant down the flutes and onto the cutting edge. This method reduces tap breakage and reversal and removal of the tap is easier.
The 'Blue Sabre' is a Goliath patented product and has special surface treatments for use on more difficult material, to improve production rates, and to extend the tap life.
